Brainstorming
Brainstorming is the simplest and most frequently used tool for innovation and creativity.
Within the Continuous Improvement Activity it is typically used to identify issues to work on, establish possible causes of problems, and develop solutions for improved results. The basic principle is to separate right and left brain activity so that the group first concentrates on generating ideas, and then concentrates on analysing those ideas at a later time.
The result is that more ideas are generated from which to chose, and very novel ideas have a better change of survival even if they are initially unworkable in the form identified.
Although essentially a simple technique, skilled leadership of a brainstorming session can lead to significantly better results.
