Performance Development
Performance Development represents the modern approach to what used to be known as Performance Appraisal.
In an appraisal system the focus in on individual results and evaluating the appraisee's work so that his/her contribution can be scored. This approach has a number of drawbacks, including the conflict between coaching and appraisal, and the difficulty of assessing contribution to team goals which are usually the most important ones.
With Performance Development the focus is on business results and team working to achieve those results. In this way the focus remains on the needs of the business, and competition between staff which may damage team working is avoided.
